Fun With Music - series AngeliqueFelix.com with String, Keys & Melodies
Every monday in July music expert Tonya Dirksen from strings, keys and melodies and I share with you musical fun learning experiences for young children.
This week I am happy to show you a few simple steps how to write a song with your child(ren). Because "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything" - Plato.
8 simple steps to prepare your child of becoming his/her own composer
Step 1 Wake up senses:
Talk, Sing, Massage, Tickle, Cuddle with your child starting from conception, during pregnancy and immediately after birth. It will wake up the senses of your little one, just look at the bright eyes of my little girl!
These are some songs that might inspire you:
STEP 2 Exploring sounds:
Give daily objects to your child to play with, some might cause big surprises as they make sounds! (picture comes from one of the fabulous books from Reggio Emilia 'Diary of Laura')
Step 3 Touching Instruments:
Let your child touch an instrument, take his / her hands and guide or hold the instrument so that your child can explore it in his/ her own way.
Step 4 Active songs:
Do active songs that fits with your child's age and do them everywhere!
Two of my favorite songs are:
1. A Stretch and Bend movement - song
2. A learning about clothes and getting dressed - song
Step 5 Books:
Books, Books, Books ........
♥ for eating :)
(picture comes from 'Boekstart.nl')
♥ for creating cousy read out loud times in specially setup Play Spaces
♥ for making your child familiar with letters and for stimulating fantasy ....
Step 6 HandPlay songs:
Clapping, stamping and dancing. Letting your child feel the rythm of a song or melody with his or her body.
A very famous universal and active children's song is 'Incy Wincy Spider' or this lovely 5 little ducks song from Tonya.
Step 7 Acting Out:
Expressing new words (also in a second language) using objects and acting out in that way a song....
I teach english to Italian toddlers via stories and songs. This is a story with fitting songs about day and night: "Mister Sun & Twinkle little Star".
....or using big movement making it into a complete cognitive and physical learning experience!
Step 8 Writing and Rhyming:
My child recently finished her first schoolyear, she learnt to write and read! Her love for music is being praticed where ever she feels inspired. Here you can see her write a song, using most of the times an existing melodies of songs that we have been singing together during her childhood. Not only she uses her fantasy to make it an exciting song, she also learnt fastly to find rhyming words, asking us to help her, expanding in this way rapidly her vocabulary.
Very first own song:
I am very proud to say that she made this song, CLICK ON THE PICTURE, together with me. Good Job Chanel and merry christmas to you too :)
