Little pig in the house - MUDmess in the livingroom

on Wed, 29/06/2011 - 23:59

The international mud day was a great celebration in our house! We even had a visit from a little "pig", that ruled the livingroom!  My playmate 'Hand on: as we grow' invited us to dig as deep as possible in our backyards, or - as in our case- into a bag of ground and yellow flour.

We've mudded very big! The after-party effect?

Chanel had boosted senses and our house a shocked livingroom :)

AFTER

Don't think that we'll play like this all the time! I wished for Chanel that she could play with dirt, there is no possibility of doing that outside since we live without garden or balcony. Recent research found evidence that bacteria common in soil and dirt could improve people’s spirits. So I was curious how Chanel would react on this big inside adventure.

She had such a great and fun time, exploring the different materials with hands, feet, while sitting down, jumping or splashing.

Before we started we've read two books in which mud is explained as a very useful natural product. I also let her watch a (dutch) 'Dancing in the Mud' - video on YouTube, you can find that downstairs.

'Room on the Broom' - J. Donaldson & A. Scheffler

'Keubeke Kuusj' - Peter Brouwers

Yellow flour from which Italians make their famous polenta. I thought that she would put everytthing inside of the bathtub, to create the mud. But since I let her explore by herself, she did things her way. That is, for me, always the right way!

The adding of the ground, that we've used in a previous playactivity 'growing a bean into a princess- experiment'.

At first Chanel played "dry" and made her kind of landscape - art. The sticks, stones and pines are materials we have been collecting during our adventures outside, as in 'my nature box became alive'.  She safes these little tresures under her bed!

"Can I also add water"? she asked me. "Sure", was my answer, "try and see what will happen"!

It became a lake!

"Can I have the sponge to bring the water back to my mountain"?

Hands..

Feet...

"It feels like I am on the beach. Jumping with the waves of the sea...." or jumping inside the mudpool like the little pigg of the book!

She asked me for the things we've found on the beach, hided them in the mud / water, sang our favorite hide and seek song and fished them out again.

The Dutch are a population with a very open mentality! In this video they stand up for the pigs who are suffering inside of their pig houses while it's 30 degrees outside.

You are one brave momma letting that mud get away in the house! Love it though :)

Sometimes I like Chanel to explore also things that you usually should do outside. But in this case we have no outside to explore (3rd floor, in the centre, without balcony/garden). So I took a deep breath and prepared her this gigantic surprise! Don't think I do this always , lol. There is nothing better as a happy child!

See you soon again, Angelique and Chanel

Wow that is truely amazing you are a great mom for allowing your child to make sand castle or whatever she is trying to do there inside the house. More praise to you, you are not scared to make a mess just to give your child an indoor beach party LOL

Hi Janice,

Great seeing you here on our blog! Indeed it was the greatest indoor beach party. I rather not tell you how many hours (and days after) I was cleaning after this HUGE adventure. LOL. But sure it was worth every minute of my cleaning time, Chanel loved it so much! So I will do it again for that :)

Lovely greetings,

Chanel and Angelique
